The silk scarf

The setting
The short story silk scarf was set at the shopping center, Oriental Plaza in Johannesburg.

The plot
The short story of the silk scarf by Ahmed Essop begin with Mrs Nebo and her friend Margaret on a shopping expedition and entered the portals of the Oriental  plaza.Mrs Nebo and her friend Margret bought some shoes and jewellery. When they walking through the shopping mall,Mrs Nebo saw a beautiful Indian dress ,she went into the shop and asked if there is a silk scarf that matches the Indian dress but there was nothing.She went from shop to shop looking for the silk scarf till she found the silk scarf in Moghul Boutique.Mr Sakur the shopkeeper of Boutique does not accept cheques only cash and Mrs Nebo does not have enough to pay  cash for the scarf.MRS Nebo and some people tried to convince him to accept the cheque but he does not .Mrs Nebo was the wife of the foreign affairs of the new government so people were saying to Mr Sakur to accept the cheque but he did not do it.Only Mr Sader gave the money to Mr Sakur for the scarf and gave the scarf to Mrs Nebo as a gift.Mrs Nebo was happy and thanked the traders.
The main characters
Mrs Nebo
-She has a medium height,with heave loins,her smooth-skinned complexion having been pampered by beauticians of sadton salon.
-She lived in white suburb of Houghton.
-She wanted to pay for the silk scarf with a cheque because she did not have enough cash for the scarf.
-She felt humiliated by Mr Sakur for not accepting her cheque.
-She was then given the silk scarf by Mr Sader as a gift.
Mr Sakur
-He is the shopkeeper of Moghul Boutique
-He is thin looking man
-He did not allow either credits or cheques in his shop only cash
-He like treating his customer fairly so he did not accept the Cheque from Mrs Nebo.
-He is the protagonist of the story because totally refuses the cheque even though there were some people trying to convince him.

Through the tunnel

The setting of the short story through the tunnel is on the beach ,Jerry and his mother on a vacation,it is implied to in a country that is foreign to both of them.

The plot
Jerry and his mother are on vacation at a beach ,in a country that is said is foreign to both of them.The mother who is a window is determined to be neither possessive nor lacking in  devotion.Jerry act from ''unfailing of contrition-sort of chivalry.''On the second morning,Jerry would like to explore a wild and rocky bay.His conscientious mother send him away with the hope that is a casual air,Jerry leaves his mother and went to swim.When he was far that he could look back,he looked at his mother and he can see her.Looking back to the sea Jerry saw some boys and he could not understand what they are talking about.Jerry joined them and were diving to a high point into the water. The boys did not care about him when they went through the tunnel as they realize that he is a foreigner.He hurts himself and loss consciousness .He swam back to the shore.His mother was ready for a battle of wills  but he gavein at once and it was important to go to the bay then a beach.

Main character
Jerry is the main character.He is an eleven year old English boy.Jerry and his mother were on vacation at a beach.His mother is a window ,sometimes he overprotect his son.Jerry was good at swimming and Diving.He try to make up friendships with some big boys at a beach but they ignore him after they found out that he is a foreigner.He tried to swim like them as they went into high point of water.
